Health in All Policies
Health in All Policies - a government-wide system to improve the health of South Australians - has been implemented as a result of Ilona Kickbusch’s recommendations.
Health in All Policies embeds health as a central concern for all policy making and casts a ‘health lens’ over targets in South Australia’s Strategic Plan - from thinking and planning for the future development of Greater Adelaide, to supporting Aboriginal youth motor vehicle licensing, to finding balance in our working lives. It looks at ‘health’ as a positive sense of wellbeing, not only the absence of something wrong.
Our Health in All Policies process is now receiving international attention as an exemplary model for cross-sector work in tackling the challenges of population health in the 21st century. The World Health Organisation has seconded SA Health officials to Geneva and Sri Lanka, to advise them on how to translate South Australia’s Health in All Policies approach to other nations.
In 2010, SA Health hosted an international meeting co-presented by the World Health Organisation, to showcase South Australia’s approach to applying Health in All Policies.
