The final report of Professor Fred Wegman, Driving down the road toll by building a Safe System, provides a comprehensive list of recommendations to guide road safety policy in South Australia.
Many of Professor Wegman's recommendations have been incorporated into the Towards Zero Together strategy and Road Safety Action Plan 2011 & 2012. Other impacts include:
- Reduction of the speed limit on 52 rural roads within 100 kms of Adelaide and on the Yorke Peninsula from 110km/h to 100km/h
- Approval of $5 million of funding over five years for the continuation of the University of Adelaide's Centre for Automotive Safety Research (CASR) program
- Development of a new, broader set of performance indicators to monitor the progress of the road safety strategy
- Mandating of a 5-star ANCAP safety rating for passenger vehicles and 4-stars for light commercial vehicles in the State Government fleet
